Until recently, liposuction provided the route to fat reduction but involved a general anaesthetic and time off work. Afterwards, significant bruising, swelling and baggy skin were all significant risks.
About Advanced Laser Lipo with Suction
Advanced Laser Lipolysis with aspiration (suction) is a new, safer alternative to achieving the result you want. The new Osyris Pharaon Diode Laser has greatly improved on the older Smartlipo laser system including more power to ensure a safer, quicker and more effective treatment. The Osyris has 25W of power compared to original Smartlipo system (6W) and newer 10W version.
Local anaesthetic is used on the treatment area then,
once numb, a 3mm nick is made in the skin. Laser light delivered through a fibre is converted to heat which
disrupts and breaks down fat cells.
At the end of the procedure, as much melted fat as possible is gently sucked out (aspirated). The rest is then naturally cleared through the lymphatic system over the following weeks and months.
The effect of the laser on surrounding skin stimulates collagen and elastin. This tightens to help avoid loose skin that can often be the result of liposuction.
Advanced Laser Lipolysis is not a treatment for obesity and is not recommended if your body mass index (BMI) is greater than 30 (unless you are very muscular). An ideal candidate would have a BMI close to 25. Calculate your BMI with NHS Direct here.
Be aware that the Healthcare Commission has reclassified Laser Lipolysis fat reduction as a cosmetic surgery procedure. Clinics applying to perform this procedure must now register as an Acute Hospital which requires meeting stringent rules e.g. infection control safeguards. Please ensure that the clinic you chose is not still operating under the old classification of Independent Clinic or Private Doctor.

FAQs
What areas can be treated?
The most common areas are chin, abdomen (tummy), lovehandles, bingo wings, outer thighs although almost any area of the body can be treated.
How long do I need to take off work?
Although some return to work very quickly, it is advisable
to have a day or two to rest after treatment. More time would be required if you
have a physically demanding job.
Does it hurt?
Your treatment should be tolerated well as local anaesthetic is used.
You will feel pushing and pulling but not pain. If you do experience
discomfort, the procedure is halted while more anaesthetic is
administered and then restarted once you are comfortable again.
Is it the same as Smartlipo?
No! The Smartlipo system is an older technology with an Nd:YAG laser. The Osyris Advanced Laser Lipolysis system has Diode laser technology and much more power (maximum of 25W). This ensures more energy delivered in a more controlled and continuous fashion.
Will it cure my obesity?
No. Advanced Laser Lipolysis works best for people with small areas of
stubborn pockets of fat e.g. abdomen, double chin, male breasts, arms,
thighs, hips, knees.
Who performs
the procedure?
Dr Townshend has trained as a surgeon and is a member of the Royal
College of Surgeons of England. He personally performs all procedures
with the help of a fully qualified registered nurse. He also carries
out all consultations and follow-up visits which are free of charge.
